چکیده

A previously described D genome locus (Pin) that controls sterol esterification in the wheat kernel has been assigned to the short arm of chromosome 7 D by comparison of the steryl ester phenotype of euploid kernels of Triticum aestivum variety Chinese Spring with those of the compensated nulli-tetrasomic lines and the 7 D S ditelosomic. Palmitate is the predominant ester in all but the 7 D nullisomic combinations, which have linoleate as the main ester. These lines also show a marked decrease in sterol esterification and a two-fold increase in free sterol, indicating that chromosomes 7 A and 7 B do not compénsate for the loss of esterification capacity associated with 7D.

Relationship between Poly(Adenosine 5'-diphosphate-ribose) Synthesis and Transcriptional Activity in Wheat Embryo Chromatin.

Chromatin-bound poly(adenosine 5'-diphosphate [ADP]-ribose) synthetase activity was highest in ungerminated wheat (Triticum aestivum L., cv. Mukakomugi) embryos, and it decreased after germination within 14 hours. In contrast, transcriptional activity was lowest in ungerminated wheat embryos, and it increased during germination for 24 hours or more. Histones, H1, H2A/H2B, basic nonhistone chrom...

Evaluation of gene expression changes of miR156 and miR172 and their targeted genes (AP2 & SPL3; vernalization factors) in two bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars

Floral transition through vernalization has a large influence on cold tolerance and agronomic traits in winter cereals. It is now apparent that in many plants small RNAs play critical roles in determination of the flowering time. There is evidence suggesting that the miR156 and miR172 families play a key role in the flowering transition of plants. In this study, the expression of two temporally ...

Effects of overexpression of high molecular weight glutenin subunit 1Dy10 on wheat tortilla properties.

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) flour properties necessary for optimal tortilla production have not been identified. Transgenic wheats (Triticum aestivum L.) overexpressing high molecular weight glutenin subunit (HMW-GS) 1Dy10 were used to make tortilla and their quality was evaluated. The level of HMW-GS 1Dy10 in flours derived from transgenic wheats was 2.5-5.8-fold greater than in controls. Pol...

Genetic Analysis of Androgenetic Traits in Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

The objective of this study was to estimate genetic parameters and to investigate the type of gene action in controlling androgenesis in wheat. Two wheat cultivars of Grebe and Houtman were reciprocally crossed with two synthetic genotypes of Do1 and Pol and then a complete set of the parents, F1, reciprocal F1 (RF1), F2 and back-cross generations (BC1 and BC2) of each cross were used for anthe...

A new insight into application for barley chromosome addition lines of common wheat: achievement of stigmasterol accumulation.

Barley (Hordeum vulgare) has a much higher content of bioactive substances than wheat (Triticum aestivum). In order to investigate additive and/or synergistic effect(s) on the phytosterol content of barley chromosomes, we used a series of barley chromosome addition lines of common wheat that were produced by normal crossing. In determining the plant sterol levels in 2-week-old seedlings and dry...
